Brunch with the Easter Bunny is April 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Club Meade, 6600 Mapes Road. Families can enjoy a buffet brunch, a bunny workshop with activities, and photos with the Easter Bunny. Cost is $17.50 for ages 11 and older, $9 for children ages 4-10, and free for ages 3 and younger. Tickets are required and are available on a first come-first served basis at the Youth Center, 909 Ernie Pyle St. Menu includes scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, ham carving station, home fries, French toast, green beans, macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets, salad bar, fruit salad, miniature desserts, ice cream and assorted toppings, orange juice, coffee and iced tea. New way to submit announcements

Community members can advertise their upcoming event, meeting or class on the Soundoff! community announcements page by visiting ftmeade.army.mil and clicking on the Public Affairs Office tab and calling the listed phone number or emailing larry.whitley.civ@mail.mil.

Requests should be submitted at least two weeks before the date of the event, meeting or class.

NEWS & EVENTS

VCC hours

Operating hours at the Demps Visitor Control Center are Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 902 Reece Road.

The VCC is closed weekends and from 7 a.m. to noon on the third Wednesday of each month for training.

All individuals who do not have a DoD-issued identification card must go to the VCC for a day pass.

Visit the VCC at least 10 business days in advance to apply for a long-term access pass.

Visitors who arrive on post when the VCC is closed must be escorted on post by an authorized DoD cardholder. This includes weekends and federal holidays.

Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day

Hospice of the Chesapeake will host the Third Annual Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration on March 30 from 4-8 p.m. at Martin’s Crosswinds, 7400 Greenway Center Drive in Greenbelt.

The event will highlight the state of Maryland’s legislated commitment to Vietnam-era veterans across the state.

Tickets are free for all Vietnam veterans and one guest, as well as two guests of the family of a deceased veteran.

It is important for each person to register and have his or her own ticket.

The Hospice of the Chesapeake expects hundreds to attend this year

Preregistration will make check-in on March 30 smooth and efficient.

Doors open at 4 p.m. for a meet and greet. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages (cash bar) will be served at 4:30 p.m.

Earth Day

Fort Meade’s Earth Day celebration is April 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pavilion, immediately following the Commander’s Call at 9 a.m.

Building evacuation training

The Fort Meade Fire Prevention Office will conduct Building Evacuation Coordinator training April 11 at 9 a.m. at Smallwood Hall, Building 4650.

This training is a requirement for all building evacuation coordinators per FGGM 420-7, the Directorate of Emergency Services Installation Fire Regulation.

If your building does not have a BEC, one must be appointed and attend this training.

Coordinators will be given the roles and responsibilities of the position, as well as the required documents and materials.

Only 80 seats are available for this training, but there will be other session in the near future.

Units and organizations should inform the fire inspector who will be attending.

Tax preparation services

Free income tax preparation services are offered through April 18 at the Fort Meade Joint Installation Tax Center at 4217 Roberts Ave.

Free tax preparation and e-filing will be provided for active-duty service members, retirees and dependents who are valid ID cardholders.

Eligible patrons may schedule an appointment by calling 301-677-9366.

Prize drawing

Each month through April, Leisure Travel Services offers customer appreciation prize drawings.

Patrons must enter each month to be eligible to win. No purchase is necessary.

Winners are drawn on the last day of the month.

  • March: Win four tickets (two adults and two children) to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore or the B&O Railroad Museum.
  • April: Win four tickets (two adults and two children) to Medieval Times in Arundel Mills.

Flea Market

Fort Meade’s indoor Flea Market opens May 6 from 7 a.m. to noon at the Pavilion.

Admission is free and is open to patrons with access to the installation.

The event will be held in conjunction with the Post Thrift Shop’s monthly Saturday Sale at its new location across from the Pavilion.

Vendor spaces are limited. Each 8-foot by 8-foot space includes one table and two chairs. An additional table costs $5.

Vendor space cost $15 in advance through May 3.

Registration at the door costs $20.

Non DoD cardholders must preregister by April 20. Preregistration will authorize entry onto the installation.

Easter brunch at Club Meade

Reserve early for Club Meade’s annual Easter Sunday Brunch on April 16.

Seating times are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Cost is $24.95 for members and $28.95 for non-members.

Cost for member children ages 4 to 10 is $12. Cost for non-member children is $14.

Brunch features fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese and assorted salads, an omelet station and a Belgian waffle station.

Carving station includes hand-carved ham, roast beef and roasted leg of lamb with mint sauce.

Breakfast includes scrambled eggs, fruit-stuffed pancakes, French toast, sausage links, bacon, hash brown casserole, grits, biscuits with sausage gravy, bagels, muffins and pastries.

Cold items include chilled steamed shrimp, poached salmon, chicken salad, pasta salad, seafood salad, macaroni salad and deviled eggs.

Lunch features seafood Newburg, lemon rosemary chicken, ribs, mac and cheese, sweet potato casserole, corn pudding, glazed carrots and desserts.

VA Resource Fair

The 2017 Veterans Resource Fair will be held April 4 from 5-8 p.m. at the Ellicott City Senior Center, 9401 Frederick Road, Ellicott City.

All military veterans are invited.

The event provides local veterans with the opportunity to meet with more than 35 businesses and nonprofit organizations dedicated to providing services, support and jobs to veterans.

Guest speakers are Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman and Tom Glenn, author and Howard County veteran who served in signals intelligence. He has worked with AIDS patients, helping the homeless and caring for hospice patients.

The resource fair is sponsored by the Howard County Office of Veterans and Military Families.

Library hosts celebrations of Fort Meade

Anne Arundel County Public Library is hosting a two-part series to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Fort Meade.

Retired Col. Kenneth O. McCreedy, who retired as garrison commander in 2008, will give both presentations.

McCreedy, who has a doctorate in American history, is the senior director of cyber development for the Maryland Department of Commerce.

“Fort Meade’s 100 Years of Service”: Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Severn Community Library

The centennial celebration kicks off with an invitation to learn about doughboys, tanks, prisoners of war, and Fort Meade’s intelligence community.

“Camp Meade & the Great War”: April 8 at 2 p.m. at the Odenton Regional Library

The event focuses on the creation of Camp Meade and World War I’s direct impact on the region.

Youth Fishing Rodeo

The Spring Youth Fishing Rodeo will be held April 8 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Burba Lake.

Bait (corn) will be provided. A limited number of fishing gear will be available for purchase, but participants are asked to bring their own.

The Bowie Baysox’s 18th annual Free Family FunFest will be held April 1 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Prince George’s Stadium, rain or shine.

The event features free rides and games in Louie’s Kids Park, music and activities on the concourse, and displays from local businesses and organizations.

The event also will feature carnival-style games for children and fire engines and police cruisers, a scavenger hunt and horses from the Maryland National Capital Park Police Mounted Unit.

Single game tickets for the Baysox 2017 season go on sale for the first time at FunFest. This is the first time single game tickets may also be purchased online.

The Baysox 2017 home opener is April 13 against the Harrisburg Senators at 6:35 p.m. Ticket plans are available online

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Farewell Circus Tour will be in Baltimore April 21-23 and April 28-30 at the Royal Farms Arena. Discounted tickets at Leisure Travel Services cost $25.
