Personal trainers at Gaffney

Gaffney Fitness Center offers personal training programs for those who are eligible to use the facility.

Individual or two-person sessions are available.

Individual performance training cost is $35 for one hour; $165 for five one-hour sessions; and $300 for 10 one-hour sessions.

Two-person training cost is $20 per person for one hour; $18 per person for five one-hour sessions; and $16 per person for 10 one-hour sessions.

Thirty-minute training cost is half the fee for all sessions listed above.

Clients will be contacted directly by the personal trainers to schedule a consultation, to determine the client’s fitness goals and to determine which package works best.

Training sessions will be scheduled directly with the personal trainer.

Spin Fest Saturday

Instructors at Gaffney Fitness Center will lead participants in Spin Fest, each taking turns in this two-hour spin ride, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Music, beverages, fruit and snacks will be provided to keep participants fueled and motivated.

Spin Ride is open to all active-duty service members and DoD cardholders.

Participants must be at least 18 years old.

Book-N-Bowl is held Tuesdays from noon to 4 p.m. at The Lanes.

Bring in a used textbook to donate and receive two free bowling game passes or contribute a hard-bound book to receive one free bowling game.

Fitness Equipment Orientation

Gain a better understanding of Gaffney Fitness Center’s Nautilus weight machine setup, weight room and proper positioning from this instructor-led orientation.

The free orientation does not include personal training.

Dollar Day

Dollar Day is offered at The Lanes every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Lifeguarding classes

The American Red Cross is offering full courses in lifeguarding, first aid and CPR/AED.

Lifeguard training will be offered March 4, 5, 11 and 12; April 11-14; and May 13, 14, 20 and 21. Classes meet 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April course meets from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Course will include complete Red Cross certification, first aid and CPR/AED (automated external defibrillator).

Registration fee is $250.

Everyone must register in person at Gaffney Fitness Center.

The Lifeguard Recertification Course will be offered Feb. 25 and 26, and March 25 and 26.

You must present current, valid certification at registration.

Registration fee is $150.

Boxing fitness classes

Boxing classes are being offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. at Gaffney Fitness Center.

All levels are welcome.

Youth Sports registration

Youth Sports is now registering for the 2017 spring season.

Spring sports include soccer, NFL Flag Football, MLB PlayBall, lacrosse, Teeball Clinic, NFL Flag Clinic, Lacrosse Clinic, Teeball, and Ready Set Run.

Volunteers are a vital component of the program and are needed for all sports.

Children of volunteer coaches play for free.

Tae Kwon Do

Child and Youth Services offers a Tae Kwon Do class Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Youth Center.

Classes for ages 4 to 6 cost $45 per month. Classes for ages 7-17 cost $85 per month.

Youth Sports is seeking volunteer coaches for futsal or basketball.

Free unit bowling

The Lanes at Fort Meade offers free bowling for all active-duty military units on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Murphy 24-hour fitness facility

Murphy Field House offers unmanned extended hours after normal operating hours.

Murphy is open to authorized registered patrons ages 18 and older to utilize the cardio equipment and Nautilus weight machines.

The free weights, basketball and racquetball courts are NOT open during unmanned hours.

The facility is unmanned, so exercise responsibly and come with a buddy.

Murphy is fully equipped with surveillance cameras. All users will be monitored at all times while in the facility.

Registration is required to gain access to the facility by fingerprint reader.

Pick up a registration form at Gaffney Fitness Center or Murphy Field House and submit the completed form to the facility in advance so your information is in the system when you come for your appointment at Gaffney to enter your fingerprint for entrance to the facility.

Volunteer coaches needed

Volunteer Youth Sports coaches are needed in the various sports programs offered throughout the year.

All volunteers will receive free training and will be certified through the National Alliance of Youth Sports.

All volunteers must complete a background check.

Youth Sports Program:

Fall season: August through October

Season registration begins in May for: soccer, NFL Flag Football, tennis, volleyball and cheerleading.

All service members and civilians are invited to play in the Texas Hold ‘Em Tournaments held Mondays and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at the Lounge at the Lanes.
