The Fort Meade Patriots have been waiting all winter to play ball and the scores from their first two games prove it.
On Jan. 7 the Patriots were up against Fort Belvoir. The score was close, but the Patriots pulled out a win with 89 points to Fort Belvoir’s 81.
The leading scorers were Llewelyn Smalley with 24 points, Keenan Bennett with 21 points, Derick Sumpter with 21 points and Matt Lamolli with 13 points.
Join Base Andrews’ baksetball team was up next and played the Patriots on Jan. Fort Meade came out on top again with a score of 83 to 72.
Llewelyn Smalley scored 28 points, Derrick Sumpter had 23 points and Keenana Bennett put 10 points on the board.
“The Patriots have a very strong team this year with a great balance of returning and new players,” said Beth Downs, sports specialist with the Fort Meade Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation. “Their Washington Area Military Athletic Conference or WAMAC started off well with two victories over Fort Belvoir and Joint Base Andrews.
“This upcoming weekend will be a tough challenge as [the Patriots] take on Fort Lee, the reigning WAMAC champions. Come on out this Saturday at 1 p.m. to Murphy Field House to support the team.”
All home games will be played at Murphy Field House at 1 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
