The final hurrah of this year’s Fort Meade Run Series was the 5K Turkey Trot on Saturday at Murphy Field House.

While some trotted, others took a brisk 1-mile walk despite the early morning chill.

About 100 adults and children sported yellow T-shirts emblazoned with a turkey print provided by Gaffney Fitness Center.

The overall winners of the 5K was Bukhari Sallam, who ran 17.45.3, and Ruth Franks, who finished with a time of 21.25.1.

Along with a medal, winners in each age category received a free holiday turkey.

“This run was a success with the numbers we had,” said Sean Farnan, Gaffney sports assistant. “Everything ran smooth. It was a good day for running.”
