Helping the hungry

Ricky Miller, receiving clerk for the Maryland Food Bank, unloads about 4,280 pounds of venison donated Feb. 15 from the recent deer cull on Fort Meade.

A deer processor prepared the meat for donation to the Maryland Food Bank, a nonprofit hunger-relief organization that partners with communities across the state to distribute food to individuals and families in need.

In a continued effort to reduce Fort Meade’s deer population to acceptable levels, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Wildlife Services scheduled the cull that began Jan. 30.
