Honoring the fallen on 9/11

Joseph P. Van Meter, training chief of the Fort Meade Fire Department, rings the station bell on Monday morning in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11.

The Fort Meade garrison observed the 16th anniversary of the terror attacks with a brief memorial service at the installation fire house. Garrison Commander Col. Rickard reminded the small gathering of service members and DoD civilians about the sacrifice of emergency responders on 9/11 and the dedication of Fort Meade’s fire and police departments. Garrison Chaplain (Col.) Terry Whiteside said a prayer in honor of the 3,125 people who perished on that tragic day.
